MALAYSIA ANGLING AND OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL FAIR 2016
Finally we are here at the MALAYSIA ANGLING AND OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL FAIR 2016. Acclaimed to be the biggest angling fair in South East Asia and for the second year in the row it was held at the Setia City Convention Center. At first I was scheduled for another tour in Jarak Island but due to some constrain I dropped the trip and head down to SCCC with Badrul to kill off some time.
MALAYSIA ANGLING AND OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL FAIR 2016 were organized by Pancing and Rod&Line Magazine which turns out to be great yearly event. Mainly industry players like Shimano, Expert Graphite, TCE Tackle and other manufacturers will come and exhibit their latest fishing tackle gears and other cool outdoor stuff.
It was already close to 3.00pm when I arrived. It was the start of the long school holiday and maybe people rushed out on Saturday to head back to their respective hometown. It took 1.5 hours to reach SCCC. FInally we made it, the crowd was ok, not overly congested. As we make way to the entrance, the hall was filled with enthusiast angler across Malaysia.
I think this year, I’m gonna give a focus a little bit more on local manufacturer who has been heading the news on social feed especially DRAVE and Rasengan Limited. I think talented local individuals starting to explore the angling market and came out with the above usual product. Something personally I am proud off, and hopefully more local manufacturer can start showcasing their product and step up competing with the big boys.
As usual TCE Tackle, Shimano SEA takes center stage with their array of tackle line up. I just don’t get it why Daiwa can’t come and showcase their masterpieces product. Anyway, we head down to the center hall, and dropped by at the Selangor FlyFishing Association. A guy was conducting a demo on how to tie the fly. Pretty much amazing and the detailing were awesome. Flyfishing are an elite set of anglers who really are dedicated their lives on flyfishing alone. I’ve tried flyfishing before but it was to artistic for me haha.
Next to it is the Surf Casting Association, another small faction that complete the number of fishing technique in Malaysia. I have some passion in Surf Casting and Surf Fishing. I think it takes some skills to throw 125g lead 300m away from the shore. Fascinating! Plus even the equipment were modified to cope with the high demand of surf fishing application.
Besides all the fishing tackle showcase, boating and marine equipment also one of the main highlight here in this exhibition. Sourcing out boating and marine equipment may not be easy as information can be very limited and not much options to select too. MALAYSIA ANGLING AND OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL FAIR 2016 provide some insight on the latest offering, plus manufacturer also provide good discount on item that are being offered during the event. Mercury and Garmin are the most active brand in the fishing industry in Malaysia, their product covers most basic and advance item for existing or new boat owners.
East Borneo Expedition 2017?
East borneo has taken the center stage in recent years. One of the best fishing spot in South East Asia and the unique thing is it has a freshwater fishing and salt water fishing spot. Super size GT, Tuna and Macks can be be caught off shore of East Borneo. However, what enticing is its River fishing option. Black Bass, Sebarau and Mahseer are 3 main species that angler can expect to catch. Asrazi will be heading down to East Borneo this year for some major Saltwater Action, InSyaAllah maybe we will slot in next year for a freshwater Expedition.
At first we were outside the booth, check-in out some of the displayed Major Craft Bone Rod and some good looking surface popper. Mr Akashah was there and I knew I need to get some info on FW fishing there. Marketing wise, EBSF has done an awesome job! Their tales of black bass adventure is something I can’t say NO. Dammit, they got me this time hahaha. Forget about the other stuff in the exhibition, East Borneo is the thing I discussed with Bard over the next few hours!

Amirul Irfan came by at the EBSF booth and we chatted for while, and even his supportive dad was around. We at Fishyology would like to wish good luck on his new path in his life, pursuing further study in Sarawak. To bad we only have time for 1 tour in Kg Beng, Perak. Hopefully we might end up in Sarawak next, who knows “grin”.
On our way out we stopped by at Ikanz clothing booth, short catch-up with Eja, Azri and Anep who was managing the booth today. Last trip together was wayy back last year in P9. Anyway this guys are the trend setter for fishing outfit and fashion if you may call it. Thanks again for the free gift, manage to get some new collection and off we go to the outdoor section.
Since we have multiple prominent Malaysian fly fisherman, this is the best time for anglers to try out first hand, Fly Fishing. Like I said, its a bit more artistic, which requires the correct posture and technique to throw tiny fly lures 10-20m away. Pak Amin is around and even Mr Aznir Malik is getting some pointers to perfect a roll cast I guess. I thought of going down the field, but it was already bit late.
We set off and look forward for next year. Overall this year was great, however there is a slight decrease in number of visitors as compared to last year, “visually”. Great job from the event management who put such a huge effort in ensuring this year event a success and hopefully it will be an even better one next year.
