HULU LANGAT FISHING RESORT, THE BOTTOM LINE II 2018
You can never let life take control of you.. to me I let my life took over for about few month prior to this post. Getting ready for PhD took a lot of effort and lot of my time. Was blessed to get an opportunity to still go out fishing in Rompin this year, manage to compete in RPBIC 2018 and finish #10 which is a good run. Now here I am, salvaging 2018, utilizing the remaining time I had left to get more content out in 2018. I completely disconnected myself with the fishing community and friends. I know I may have offended some of them who has been supporting me all this years. I hope you guys understand and I never really left everything behind. Still holding on to what I build since the end of 2017. Hopefully The Bottom Line II would bring back the old me to get involved again..

It all started back when Fooz of Reelyology as former inaugural champion of TBL 2015 announced that TBL II will be held at Hulu Langat Fishing Resort, Selangor – Nov 2018. Texted my buddies and manage to get Azmi, Anis and Fauzan to come and join this fishing outing. The Bottom Line fishing tournament is a small tournament I founded in 2015 when I was quite active with GoPancingMalaysia. This year edition, they still retain the same concept, which different species will be given different points and the ranking of each angler will be determined by the overall score of the outing. One thing for sure, I did not come here to compete, but rather just spending some time with these guys and enjoy my short fishing outing.

Hulu Langat Fishing Resort is one of the most proper fishing pond that are setup just outside of the city center. The pond is quite nice, with individual “VIP” hut were setup along the pond to give extra comfort for anglers who wants a bit of a privacy during their fishing outing. Now they even have rooms for overnight options, which is suitable to those who wants to spend more time fishing in Hulu Langat Fishing Resort. This pond were stocked with a lot of Mekong Catfish, and probably some Amazonian Catfish, Alligator Gar, Arapaima, Siamese Carp and Java Barb.
I’ve been to this place and it was probably going to be one of the best setup pond in KL but the bite rate was an issue here. Fishing for Mekong Catfish is hard and for pond operator it is hard to get them biting all the time. It will definitely feed during the first few month of the opening period but then the bite rate will drop off. Unlike Exotic fishing pond which stocked their pond with Amazonian, they can get the bite rate stabilize and get people to catch fish at a better rate. Hulu Langat Fishing Resort also have a specific house rule, which is you have to use their own bait and you can’t bring bring other bait. Which is fine to me but Amazonian will be hard to catch on ground bait. Nonetheless, TBL II will be awesome, I’m sure of it.

This year edition TBL II starts from 9am to 3.00pm. 16 anglers signed up to participate and compete some pretty good prizes. I sponsored one of my FC Factory jigging rods and some guys even sponsored tackle stuff, knives and a GShock watch. Turns out to be a proper competition haha. Kak Liya and Fooz will be the organizing committee and they well be responsible in keeping our score card up to date. I didn’t prepare anything at all, just bought some rigs from the counter and we are ready to go. The pond operators mixed all the ground bait for us and by 9.30 we kick start our fishing tournament.

The morning session In Hulu Langat Fishing Resort were quite slow for us, but some of the guys rack ups some good score to take early lead. Particularly Zul who started the day with 3 Mekong catfish! Asrazi were the first person to score the first Mekong catfish. We spend few hours changing bait, keeping it fresh but still could not get them to bite. Azmi switched spot and finally he was able to get on the scoreboard with a decent Mekong catfish. While hooked another one thanks to the pond guide who showed us some tricks to increase our hook up chance!

Dead silence midway through the tournament. We decided to stop for awhile and had our lunch, thanks to Organizers who packed Chicken Rice for all of us. I’ve been for about 4 hours without a bite. Terrible. The trick the guide told us is that we first throw out a couple of bait ball to get their attention and then we cast our bait rod out. In a split second it will take the bait as soon as it drops on the water. I give it a go, for some time and the success rate was pretty slim. I decide to just wait for the fish to take it naturally as I’m getting bored staring at my fishing rod. I told Fooz, I never had good record with a Mekong Catfish. Suddenly I had something on my line finally hooked one fish to my name. It was fairly good fight, but manage to get it under control easily and scored my first Mekong of the year! haha!

As for we only clear leader which is Zul with 3 Mekong Catfish and probably Kikilala with his Amazonion Catfish outscore others as it weighs more points. Bard, Octo and ManGB still no points to their name and time is running out with 1 more hour to go. Switched to a much smaller hook to catch some few barbs but it didn’t work and it looks like Anis is going to go home empty handed haha!

As time were running out, Zul probably had one of his hand on the championship vest! haha! But that is not the case as Asrazi hooked to another fish. Most of us who landed a Mekong would end up with 4 points, and Zul at this moment with 12 points. A tall order for some of us to beat. Kikilala might still have shot with another Mekong maybe. Fishing is about luck and perseverance and Asrazi clearly showed that today as he fights his way to score another fish. As soon as the fish jumps out I knew it was a different fish and probably will bring Asrazi to the top of the podium. After he finally landed his second fish, it was a Siamese carp! earning him extra 10 points and the overall lead.

As time closing in to the last few minutes, Eddy manage to get to scoreboard with another Amazonian Catfish, surpassing others with Mekong Catfish. It was fun tournament overall, although could have been better but that’s how it goes sometime. Happy to do this, catching up with they boys and do some good fishing. Congratulations to Asrazi who deserved this win and will keep the Championship Vest and he has to came out with next year’s edition of TBL 2019.. Hopefully..
Azmi and Fauzan manage to get into top 5 with their catches and earned them some good prize and hopefully with this outing I can use it to get back into the fishing stuff and came with some more good content for Fishyology.. as for now.. thank you!
