Natural Exotic Fish Fishing Pond, Rawang – 24 JUN 2016
Ramadhan Kareem fellow readers! In this holy month of Ramadhan, most of us would skip fishing during the day because fishing some how put tremendous strain on your body. Dehydration will be the anglers main enemy, thus today we are going to have our first official night fishing at the Natural Exotic Fish Fishing Pond, Rawang. I’ve never fished in this place beyond 8.00pm. I remembered last time things are quite ok back in 2015 (two seperate outing with Andrew Griffin and Shamin) when we ended our fishing session at night. Today our fishing session begins at 10.30pm and will finish at 2.30am.
Thanks to Mahfudz who spearheaded the idea of night fishing, plus Reelyology will compose their first ever video footage on drag setting application on several serious looking heavy reels (Saltiga 5000, Ryobi Safari 5000a, Poseidon 200 and etc). We all knew NEFFP is home to the infamous Mekong, Amazonian and Asian Catfish. They can put a serious stress on reel thus this will be the best place to demonstrate on drag application.
Mr. Tysan from Matsumoto also joined us and supported us with several latest product from Matsumoto. Scented lure and attractant has long been used by anglers to try improve their catch rate when ordinary hard or soft lures doesn’t work. Instead of relying on the characteristic of any given lure, Matsumoto RX Series has given the angler an option to add another characteristic to the lure which is scent. Everything is in place, we kicked start our outing at 10.30pm and the bait that we are using today is prawn. A single most deadly bait for Amazonian and Asian Catfish. Leave it out of the refrigerator for 24 hours, the smell of rotten prawn will capture the fishes attention.
Things started pretty good for Asrazi and Azrul who scored I think 3 each during the first hour. At that rate, things are looking very good at the moment, I had 2 initial strike but somehow I lost track on how to set the circle hook. After the first initial action from Azrul and Asrazi, things went quiet for a while. It is not as busy as usual over Hut no 6, usually swarm of Rohu or even Sultan Fish is visible as it fools around on the surface of the water.
Rumors has it that they have transferred most of the fish to Behrang, a new fishing spot that are about to kickstart maybe over the next few weeks or months. What makes me wonder is that not even a single Amazonian were caught during the first 2 hours. Usually, they were suckers for smelly prawns, somehow they are just not there. Not at their usual lair. Luckily thanks to Matsumoto RX scents, we are able to landed quite a number of Asian Redtail on a very low bite rate day.
As soon as everything settled down, Mahfudz started to setup for his first video shooting. Due to limitation on our equipment, shooting under the dark sky can be a challenge. Without proper lighting, we struggle a bit to capture our footage in the low light condition of NEFFP. Pretty much I’m too focused on finding the right step to set the hook, and after 2 more run still couldn’t get it right. Probably because of the light rod, its hard to set the hook on big hard mouth of the catfish here.
Azrul and Asrazi continue on, hooking and landing one fish after another. Octo landed a beautiful Sultan Fish on prawn. A rare occasion that it took the prawn bait but still a good sign we are capturing more variety of species.
For me and Mahfudz, it was a quiet day. 3 hours down the mark, and still nothing on the end of the line. I simply give up the final hour and manage to have a chat with Yan Chyuan. Fascinated by his story of the past, especially on the tales of Kenyir. Basically Kenyir was the main FW fishing attraction in Malaysia at that point of time. Due to non-sustainable fishing practice, we lose one of our fishing heritage. To stir things up again, Mahfudz set 1 rod on Matsumoto ground bait. One hit and run that was it. Quiet.. Night.. haha.
Azrul and Asrazi broke the silence once in while with several Asian and finally one Amazonian thanks to Azrul. ManGB sealed the night with one final Asian before we wrapped up the night. In total it was not a bad day, only me and Mahfudz skunked, but its just another bad day in the office.
