TAKE ME OUT FISHING, HERITAGE POND, ULU YAM, SELANGOR
Over the past few months, Fishyology was on a steady state of growth in terms of readers as well as followers. When we decided to switched platform it was the right decision to do although we lost most of our 2012 and 2013 top titles in the Google indexing battle, that particular lost was quickly compensated by several 2014 top posts. Fishing outing report has been Fishyology main theme through out the first 2 years, I guess its about time to expand a little bit our horizon towards conservation as well as serving the community.

Packing up all our fishing gears and goodie bag!

Kak Liya is the Project Coordinator for TMOF

En Sabri was kind enough to grill this lovely Rohu! Our kinda dinner!

It all started back in May 2014, when clearly I anticipated the path of Fishyology one day will coexist with GoPancingMalaysia Forum as being in the front line in placing Fishing as a sport in Malaysia. As all strategy falls into the right place, its was high time to meet up with GPM team members.
Our Yamcha Session was always on Friday night at Ryan Bistro, Sentul. A cosy mamak stall, a location where all forum members catchup and simply spend time talking about fishing for hours lol. I’ve been invited several time over the past few years but never really motivated enough to join. I’ve known most of the guys there and even fished with them before and to accept that invitation was the right thing to do. I believe most of the members are in same page as I am and all the sudden all of us clicked in quickly and become best friends.
During that period there were planning to run a small event associated with taking a kid fishing. Its GPM first event for 2014 and I volunteered to be one of the “Uncles” who will be guiding selected kids for a fishing session. GPM has selected kids from 8-13 years old from Yayasan Chow Kit and after 3 months of careful planning finally we are ready to kick off “Take Me Out Fishing!”
TAKE ME OUT FISHING
Take Me Out Fishing was held on Sunday, 12 October 2014 at the Heritage Pond, Ulu Yam. The TMOF Committee member arrived a day early to prepare all the necessary equipment, banners, bunting, and not forgetting goodie bags for the YCK you anglers hehe. Straight from a Port Dickson Jigging trip, I rested for a while packed my bags and together with Badrul we head down to the redevous point. We rented a traditional Melayu home and it felted like balik kampung for Raya lol. The place was quite nice with the traditional house and kampung style surrounding and not forgetting the sound of river flowing just behind the house. It was the perfect kampung for an angler lol.

Not really a fan of FW Fish from local paid ponds, but this fish tasted pretty good!
No time to waste, we packed all the goodie bags for our Padawan and we thanked all the sponsors that contributed towards our event. I was a great feeling of unity and team work among GPM members which I’ve never experienced before. Before mid night everything was all set but it was not perfect without burning the midnight oil with some old school kampung style jamming session. Finally we shut down the lights at 4am!! and still have to wake up at 6.30am.
Don’t know what to expect for tomorrow’s event, guiding an adult is ok but guiding a kid is far more challenging. I’ve experienced taking my nephew fishing and the problem is they never seems to have enough patience in fishing and kept changing spots and baits. I guess its normal for their age haha.
It all started at 7.00 am to ensure everything is in place including breakfast, equipment and fishing venue. The kids arrive at 8.30 sharp and we begin our day with breakfast and ice breaking session.

Mr Octo greeted our young anglers from YCK

After you put a great smile, start your day with a good and healthy breakfast

Ikhmal and Mr Sabri put up a great smile for the kids 🙂

Introducing Asrazi, our Project Manager Mr Mahfuz and Bernard Tan!
We begin our session by assigning guides or we call them “Uncles” to guide the children from YCK. I was lucky that I had to guide two of them Ikmal and Hakim :). We open up our tackle box and inside there is a fishing rod, reel and all terminal tackle for us to do our fishing for today. Thanks to TCE Tackle who is kind enough to sponsor us the fishing tackle. Brief introduction and preparation on two rods. Feeling a bit of a pressure already haha, preparing beginners stuff should be easy but wanting my kids to have the best experience in fishing was probably the reason i feel a bit intense haha.
We started off with a carolina rig and heads off for the initial briefing by Mr Octo. We walked all the way to our fishing pond and our bait for today is worm. I guess this is the most honest and basic way fishing, it brings back to my first time fishing with my dad using only worm and bamboo stick as rod :). We get in to the best position possible and once Mahfuz blow the horn, let the best team wins!!

“Well kid, make sure u do ur best ok” said the uncle 🙂

Final briefing before we head out to our battle ground!
As soon as we begin our fishing session, all hell breaks loose in a good way though lol, the rivalry among teams are intense haha. We started well Hakim and Ikmal both earning their first catfish. I let the boys do their own fishing while I scouted the area for potential hotspot, we switched to a different location and soon we are nailing one catfish after another. Ikmal started slow but Hakim is chasing for the lead though. Not easy to cope with my young anglers demand who kept switching rigs, bait and fishing spot haha, but it was all around we had 3 hours of fishing can you imagine that it was all laughter for the next 3 hours. Simply WOW!
My boys keep up the pace although Izzudin team landed a massive Rohu to claim the “Special Catch” prize, I showed them that never gave up, we can still win something today. Hakim took those words and channel that postive energy in his fishing and hopefully he will earn his prize for his good effort.

You got the skill and talent kiddo!

Badrul with his kid, anxiously waiting for Mahfuz to kick off the game

Ali with his protege, one big keli you got there 🙂

Bernard showing off his kid first catch!

Look at this kid expression, completely blown away by his own ability to catch fish haha

ManGB fishing outing..Opss I mean YCK members fishing outing haha, inside joke here haha

Yeah2 the biggest one of the day..

Mr and Mrs Octo enjoying the success of this event 🙂
Finally we finished our session 3 hours later and the judging committee now judge the team score. We all head back to the canteen and we had early lunch that day. It was hard work but I liked it 🙂 Prize giving ceremony started right after lunch and we also have visitors from our sponsors Majlis Belia Selangor as well as TCE Tackles Representative. We selected 5 winners and Hakim is one of the winners! Landed the longest Tilapia of the day. So proud of you 🙂

GoPancingMalaysia and Fishyology congratulate all winners! I guess all of us are winners today, great event and great sporting spirit! We finish our Part I, follow the continuation of this story in Part II
