FISHING IN KL, A TOURIST PERSPECTIVE – 3 JUNE 2014
Over the past year, I have been getting a lot of feedback from Tourist wanting to know a suitable location for fishing activity which is near to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With such overwhelming support, I would like to share my top 3 fishing spot that is suitable for angler+tourist wanting to explore the local fishing scene. Preparation is always the key to establish a great day of fishing, thus prior heading out to you favourable spot its good to know what type bait, terminal tackles and other stuff that you need to bring along.
Terminal tackle can be bought at a local tackle shop or you can just bring some from home. A normal swivel, sinkers, leaders, and a variety of hook sizes will be enough to start fishing in my top 3 list. Any fishing rod would do, with rod rating of 10-20lb and a reel with a line capacity of 100m or more and the poundage of the line is around 20lb or heavier.
Travelling to all location will be shown using public transportation starting from KL Sentral and you may opt to travel directly using a Taxi or you can opt to save cost by travelling by KTMB Komuter Train and Taxi. I will try to give a comparison in terms of travelling cost and hopefully, it will help you take to make the best decision to go out fishing in kl.

Your normal rod, reel and terminal tackle is sufficient to try out Malaysia’s local fishing scene

NATURAL EXOTIC FISHING POND, RAWANG
Natural Exotic Fishing Pond (NEFP) based on my opinion is the best fresh water paid pond situated outskirt of Kuala Lumpur. It is a great place for anglers who wanted to try out local and imported exotic fish species and its similar to paid exotic fishing pond in Thailand.

Direct Taxi From KL Sentral To NEFP : RM110
OPTION 2
KTM Komuter From KL Sentral to Rawang : RM3.60
Taxi from Rawang Station to NEFP : RM20.00
Total : RM23.60

Deposit : RM150
3 Hours Fishing : RM100
Remaining RM50 will be returned after fishing session (3 Hours) ended
Facilities: Restaurant, Tackle & Live Bait Shop, Rod and Reel Rental, Huts, Rod-holder and Fishing Hut
NEFP, although it is slightly far from Kuala Lumpur, with public transportation access as well the facilities within the pond compound, is complete as a one-stop angling centre where you can get your terminal tackle and live bait all in one place. Currently they are stocking Asian Redtail Catfish, Amazonian Catfish, Arapaima, Alligator Gar, Mekong Catfish, Chao Praya Catfish, Carp, Sultan Fish, Patin (local catfish), Pacu, Knife Fish and Toman. With a long list of exotic species, this is a place to be if you are planning to experience the local fishing scene, especially fishing in KL.

If you love flyfishing and nature and would like to try out other nature+ family activities, then Taman Pertanian Malaysia is the best choice. The Taman Pertanian Malaysia was opened to the public in 1986 and located in Shah Alam, Selangor. The area, which is also known as Bukit Cherakah, covering 1,295 hectares or virgin jungle is the world’s first agro-forestry park. The genesis of the agricultural park was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture.
There are many gardens in this park amongst which are the Spice Garden, Ornamental Garden, Orchid Garden, Cactus Garden, Bamboo Garden and Mushroom Garden. Bicycles are available for rent at the park while free bus service is provided to ferry visitors to various spots within the park. If you just wanted to fish in the surrounding park you may fish for a fee of RM2 per fishing rod. The operating hours of the park is from 8:30am to 4:30pm Tuesdays to Sundays. It is closed on Mondays except when Monday is a public or school holiday.
The fishing center is the best spot for anglers to try out and currently they stocked Tilapia, Sultan Fish, Pacu and Toman! It is not as hard core as the NEFP but with a nice subtle ambiance of the rain-forest this is great place to spend some precious time with families and friends.

The catch and select pond situated just beside the FV Restaurant is for those who like to catch their fish and select which of the preferred species as a keeper for dining at the restaurant or simply bring it home. The prices vary from one species to another and it’s weighted to get the selling price.
The last pond which only opens during the weekend and public holiday and is limited to 2 fishing session as explained earlier is the Toman Pond. It is the newest attraction to Fish Valley stocking Giant Snakehead, Pacu and Local Catfish. FV fishing activity is great and it offers good food and service. You can buy the bait at the Restaurant counter and ask their friendly guides to prepare the bait for you. Making this as one of the best spots for Fishing in KL.

I really hoped that with this post, it can give tourist and anglers from abroad some ideas and selection on the fishing spot located near KL. With access to public transportation, travelling around KL will be a breeze although the taxi pricing may varies and I think it should be lower than what I’ve suggest. Well I hope you guys would have a great experience trying out one of this location and share you journey in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with your friends and families
Hi
Your post really helped me find the right fishing spot near KL. I visited FISH VALLEY, SEMENYIH a couple of days ago and fished the Sports fishing pond with my son. The pond is well stocked and fishing for small fish (1-2kg) was easy. We caught a lot of fish on pellets (bought from the restaurant) using a feeder. A better tactic would have been to fish surface with bread as most of the fish stayed in the top water. However we had a fun day, thanks to you.

Hello, my family (16 year old boy and 13 year old girl) are interested to go fishing but none of us have any prior fishing experience. Is there someone we can follow for a family outing to learn some basic fishing around KL please? FYI – we do not have any fishing stuff as well …. thanks for your kind advice.
