FISHING VALLEY, SEMENYIH – 19 APR 2014
Fishing Valley, Semenyih. One of the best Fresh Water fishing pond located in Semenyih, Selangor. Last time I visited this pond was probably late last year but there are no catch for me to share thus no report of it in Fishyology haha. It is situated more less 15km from my house and the best thing is, I manage to get Andrew Griffin to join me today for some relaxing fishing on Sunday evening. Last trip in Port Dickson was not a great one hoping today, I would land some decent species for me to share with all readers.
Head out to Fishing Valley at 1.00pm and drop by to buy some bread for Patin and Pallet 6363 which can be used to catch most of the species in the Catch and Release pond. The pricing now is a bit expensive as compared to last time. RM30 for half day as compared to last time was RM20. As long as they restock the fish I don’t mind paying. Started by soaking the pallet with water and let it absorb the moisture to soften the pallet. Today I camped near the restaurant, not a usual spot but last time this is where I manage to hook one Mekong Catfish.

Nice spot under the shade with spectacular view 🙂

Daiko ULS-763 paired with Daiwa Luvias 2506H
20 Minutes later I cast out my bait dead center of the pond and hope for the best. Andrew could not make it on time as the road near the Semenyih Dam was closed as there is a major land slide. I was worried that he might not be able to make it today as the road heading to Fishing Valley can be tricky. Today I geared up on light setting, as usual my Daiko Blue Spear ULS-763 paired with Daiwa Luvias 2506H on PE0.8 line. Did not put any shock leader as this would be easier for the fish to take the bait but I feared it would break line if an aggressive Rohu or Pacu hit the bait.
Reeled in from the initial cast and the bait was pretty firm on the hook so I cast it again. Once the bait hit the water, BANG! first strike of the day. I was a Pacu and it swims wildly on the surface. It has been a while I’m using this UL rod, thus fish got the upper hand as I was struggling to land the fish. With only 3kg drag, it requires great technique to ensure the fish on the other end would surrender. 5 minutes later, I was pushing too hard thus the fear of line breakage becomes a reality haha.
I tie a 25lb FC shockleader around 2 feet just to give a shock absorbant feature on my setting after my line break earlier. Cast the third time and now its a waiting game. Feels good relaxing on Sunday evening, but then it was raining moderately for 20 minutes. Lucky I camped under the tree so it was not that bad. Through my past experience, FV will become lively after rain and hope when Andrew showed up he will have some opportunity to savor one of FV specimen. Then my rod hit a second strike of the day, I knew it was going to be a Carp as it does not put any fight. Finally I marked my first score of the day 🙂 a Common Carp or Leekoh. Right after I release the Carp, Andrew showed up and its a relief he manage to find the place.

With the help of FV friendly guide, score No.1 of the day, Common Carp

Thank you for netting and taking my picture 🙂

This is the first time Andrew (AG) has been to Fishing Valley, Semenyih so I will try my best to guide him with the best possible technique fishing in this huge catch and release pond. After a few times casting our bait, same thing happen again when a fish struck during the bait hits the water. Again it was a Pacu but this time I am ready!! Once you now the limit of drag and rod loading then everything is routine after that. AG helped me land a decent size Pacu, It is around 10lb +- or 4.5kg. That is a new record for my UL catch as last time it was a 4kg Milk Fish in Bedong back in December 2013.

Safely in the net! Thank you Wingman AG!

Good start for AG today 🙂

My eyes is looking at AG rod! Something has taken the bait 🙂

Common Carp or Golden Leekoh
Final part of the day was frenzy again during the final our of day. I manage to hook another 2 Pacu but one got away. It was the same case, Pacu will hit the bait right after it hits the water. I guess they must have been circling the same area and staying on top water. Even AG tried it and he manage to land one. It was a great day of fishing and we will be back during Labor Day 1 May hopefully. Till then, thanks for reading and Thank you AG for the wholesome dinner.

Three times today 🙂

Final Pacu for me today

Moments before this Pacu went Berserk! and slip away with AG’s Boga Grip

AG Pacu of the day, an experience with UL setting. AG just manage to save his Boga grip when the Pace went berserk Haha!

Final Pacu for me today

What a great catch! If u dont mind. Can you explain more about your rigs and bait. Hope to get ur reply soon. Thanks!
Hi Tommy,
My rig is very simple, I use a PE0.8 as my mainline and a 25lb Fluorocarbon shock leader. At the end of my shock leader I tied a 1/0 size circle hook. Using palm oil seed for Pacu and fish pallet for carp. The weight of the bait is enough to cast the bait.
