PULAU JARAK, PERAK – 21 MAR 2014
Back in March, Asrazi and Tackle Source team embark on a 3 days jigging and popping trip to Jarak Island, located of the coast of Perak. I am always fascinated when this team went to Jarak as they always end-up with a great haul of catches and add in variety of species though different technique. As explained earlier in my Special Post, Jigging, Offshore Casting and Popping are 3 main technique that can be applied in Jarak Island @ Pulau Jarak. Today I would like to share some of their great trophies. They head out to islands of the west coast to challenge those pelagic species wondering around their usual test field. Driven by the good weather and clear skies, enthusiasm boils up since this a repeat after the last trip back in September 2013 was a bit on the low side. The team members are Asrazi, Eidi Ocea, Marcus, Eugene, Kiat and Julian. Credit to all 6 amazing anglers and Tackle Source!

Razi with a nice Mackerel Tuna and it is huge! Fallen for Shout! ShabShab and was pulled out from the depths using Evergreen Poseidon Spin Jerker

Another yellow fin on Shout! Width on Golden Mean Earthshaker Rod.

Great size Cobia! Another common visitor fallen for Shout! Strobe jig
Cobia which can be easily found in the surrounding waters of Jarak Island, is well known for its strong stamina and can drag for minutes or even hours trying to land this strong species. They certainly don’t give up easily without a brutal fight and Razi manage to land a couple of Cobia. I manage to sample this great fish and at first I was a bit skeptical about the taste, thought it would be a fish with strong fishy smell but the truth is, it is very good taste and texture haha. I’ve seen reports that Cobia would go after Jigs and Sinking Lures thus making this a sought after species if you are heading to Jarak Island but be sure to work out a bit to boost your stamina 🙂
Another sought after species in Jarak Island would be GT’s or Giant Trevally. During this trip, I believe they did not manage to catch any GT’s through popping but they caught them via jigging. Juvenile GT’s is great fun when on light tackle, certainly GT’s lived up to its name as one of the best game fish in the angling world.
LIKE!

GT’s and Razi is “ong” ever since his first GT in Port Dickson

They hit a school of assorted Trevally. Another double hookup, this time it’s the Shout! Flash and Sevenseas Viper against these Yellowfins

Jenahak or Golden Snapper and Grouper is two species that is available in great sizes and usually, deep sea anglers would visit Jarak Island waters to catch huge Jenahak and some could weigh more than 10kg! It is considered on the prized catches in Malaysian terms maybe because if the taste of this fish and its strength. Jigging is another effective technique and Shout made jigs is certainly effective in taming this deep sea species.

Nice size Golden Snapper or Jenahak hitting a Shout made Jig. Jigs from Shout!, Effective and practical on these waters

Jigging proving to be a great technique in landing different kind of species. Again Jenahak hitting a Shout Jig. This snapper was the 1st customer taking on Shout! Flash jig

Evergreen Temujin Spider is a great UL rod and as I said earlier, light tackle gives maximum pleasure 🙂

Shout! ShabShab on Tulala BC rod

Rarely seen Spotted Mackerel and quite a great size based on my experience. They lost quite a number of jigs, suspecting there’s a school of these nearby.

Another grouper fallen for Shout! made jigs!

Moving on to the next spot. This time something big snatched the jig. Things were pretty under controlled especially when you are armed with Poseidon Slow Jerker jigging rod. Shout! has worked its magic again, This healthy grouper went for the ShabShab Jig and never got its freedom again. This marked the end of their great outing in Jarak Island @ Pulau Jarak, Perak. Stay tuned for more update from Fishyology!!
