TIGER 5 GAME FISHING POND, PERAK – 23 NOV 2013
Late November outing with bobby leads us to Tiger 5 Fishing Pond in Ayer Tawar, Perak. A long way drive from KL as we head to Ayer Tawar around 4.00 a.m in the morning and reach at our destination in 8.00 a.m. While waiting for other guys to meet us at the coffee shop, we take a short break having breakfast and preparing for today’s battle with the Groupers. 9.00a.m our tour guide pick us up and off we go to Tiger 5 Fishing Pond. The charges for this pond is RM1800 for 6 hours and a maximum pax of 10 person per session. Opens only on Sat & Sun and booking in advance is a must to avoid disappointment. This fishing trip is divided into 2 session and in 2 different pond (3 hours) each.

Today I joined the distinguish members of Tackle Source 😀

My first Queensland Grouper! Courtesy from Tiger 5 helpful Guide

I’m of to a slow start as it takes some time for me to understand how do I work the lure for the fish to hit it. Vibrations works like wonders here in this pond, as well as sinking minnow. My suggestion is to go with vibration lures and work it with soft and subtle stroke. My standard equipment today was Daiwa Luvias with RCS 2508 spool and Major Craft Volkey BLC 6-12lb rod. Grouper in this pond is very aggressive and have a good stamina. 6-12lb rod is manageable but it will strain your arms and hand as we need extra effort in landing the fish but it was great fun!
POWERED BY!

Shimano Culcutta 101 paired with Golden Mean Rod

The way the rod bends simply breathtaking haha.. Loved it!!

Officially my first Queensland Grouper! Only at Tiger 5!

It is far more easier to control this monstrous grouper with a heavier rod!

A great shot, courtesy of Tiger 5 personnel

An average size in Tiger 5! Pretty cool huh 😀

Bobby’s turn!

This Evergreen Temujin Rod really bent through nicely

Another huge strike but this time the fish won the battle

Big Fish = Big Smile 😀

Queensland Grouper fallen for a SP lure

Jackall TN60 gives me another Queensland Grouper 😀

One of many Grouper landed that day 😀
Once I got the hang of it working vibration lures, it was getting a hit every cast. I reckon a Rapala Rattlin will also work in this pond as I caught a grouper with a rapala rattlin in its stomach. On that day I’m using Jackall TN60 vibration lure. Double or triple hookup is common in this pond as the fish is really active in hitting all sorts of lure or soft plastic bait.
We finished our first session around 2.00p.m we pack our gear and head to the second pond. The second pond is said to be far more frenzy then the first pond. It is possible to had one bite every cast. I was already tired during the second session, but continue to fish for grouper. This time I’m using a heavier setting, Daiwa Freams 11 3000 and Major Craft Giant Killing Offshore casting rod with PE 1.5-3 rating. It is easier to fight the fish, giving more leverage in pulling the fish to shore.

A bonus catch, 1 Grouper with 3 lures in its mouth ahaha
EVENING SESSION CATCHES GALLERY

We ended the day around 5.30p.m. I think today we landed more than 30 grouper or maybe more. The photos in this blog only highlight some of our catches. Definitely one of the best saltwater fishing pond in Malaysia! Such a wonderful experience as we head to the end of 2013. Thanks for reading and be sure to catch more action from Fishyology.com
CATCH AND RELEASED!

Hi,
We’re planning a trip to this pond on 1st August (Saturday). We still have space for 3-4 anglers. I will be more than glad if any of you would like to join us as it will be our first time here. An experienced head will definitely help! Besides making more angling buddies hehe
Regards 🙂
