Newbie perks! Prize winner Golden Trevally

Pekan Pahang is one of the best Jigging spot in Malaysia and well known across the globe for its Sailfish. Since fishing charters usually book 1 year in advance to fish in this location, I have decided to go for newly established fishing charter located in Pekan, Pahang. After 2 months of preparation, finally we have our chance to jig and pop in this so called dream spot.This would not be my first time fishing in this waters. Previously 4 years ago I have embark on my first Pekan fishing trip and the catches was bountiful.

Currently, it is the Diamond Trevally season, well known sister to the common Giant Trevally. This will be the targeted fish for this trip. Other species would be Spanish Mackerel and GT’s, Sailfish and other bottom feeders like Golden Snapper and Grouper.

Off we go to Karang Luas

Pekan has lots of different jigging spot and for today, I have selected Karang Luas as the main Jigging Location. We made several stops along the way jigging for DT’s but our jigs were attacked by countless baby Barracuda which we released back to the sea.

Finally we reach our intended location. We continue on jigging and manage to land several groupers but no DT’s. We can see them in the sonars, in-fact we can see them swimming in the waters. That is how clear the water was on that day which according to Din was not a good time to fish in this waters. What a steep learning curve for me and the team. We continue on jigging and hopefully scores one of the targeted species.

We head back to coastal area since there is no chance of hooking DT’s. We are pushing for our last chance and finally, Tekong’s jig was hit by something hard. Since this is the first time Bosan join a Jigging trip, we decided to let him finish of the fish. Racun!! Haha.

We wrap the day around 6.00pm since there is no more hits from the fish. Overall this would be a good learning experience for me ever since 4 years ago. Will return here sooner than expected I guess hahaha.
