THYE FISHING VILLAGE, KEDAH – 10 SEP 2012
Bedong Pond, Kedah is probably one of the best salt water fishing scene in northern Malaysia. Situated 400km++ from Kuala Lumpur and probably 40km+- from my hometown in Alor Star, Kedah. This year I’ve visited this pond twice and on both occasion I simply enjoy my fishing time.
During my first visit, it is quite difficult to locate the pond as it was situated inside a Palm Oil Plantation. As I reached the front gate, it looks like an abandon factory and quite creepy. There are 3 main pond for anglers to fish probably by the size of 2-3 tennis court. Bedong Pond does allow the usage of hard or soft lures. Barramundi, GT, Tarpoon, Moonfish and Golden Snapper are some of the specimen available in Bedong Pond.
No time to waste, I started to cast out hard lures from minnows, crankbait, stickbait, poppers and micro lures. Using Ajiking ProSpin 2000 on 8lb line and 20lb leader paired with Lemax Storm Lagend 6-10lb rod. Tirelessly I’ve been casting for hours with no strike at all. Then I decided to use fish feed as I don’t want to go back empty handed. Finally we manage to land 4 Barramundi and 1 Golden Snapper.

My First Barra!

The one and only Golden Snapper

Yeap.. Score another one
The next time I visited Bedong Pond, I was prepared to catch the big ones. I’ve brought two sets for casting and bottom fishing. I have read countless reviews stating that soft plastic lures works perfectly here for barramundi. The only setback is, it has been raining for the past 24 hours. Even if its raining, I’m still manage to attract small tarpoon on soft plastic but I just can’t seems to hook them properly. Their size is rather small but they are fast and acrobatic. Making it easy for them to release the hook.

One of many Barramundi scored!

This one hits on small Soft Plastic Grub

Soft Plastic seems to do the job here in Bedong
Certainly I will return to fish here. In fact, the next date I will be here is 4-5 November with my boys. Moonfish and Tarpoon is my next target with a slight change of tactics. Stay tuned for more updates!
